Student Success Plan (SSP)
The SSP and Its Process
CSEC creates a Student Success Plan (SSP) for each student that provides a framework for gathering and summarizing important information about each student and helping him or her create a future career path. The SSP is a living document, meaning that it is used and updated throught the student's career. The process for developing the SSP is divided into several areas. The tasks to be accomplished include the following:
- Get to know each student
- Identify each student's strengths in academic, career and personal interests
- Help each student identify his or her career cluster
- Identify each student's postsecondary institution plans
- Identify family concerns that may impact the student
Get the Most Out of Your SSP
Understanding each student's strengths and interests provides a wealth of information in creating a path for each student. The use of a strengths-based approach to planning is essential for developing effective student support plans. In planning your SSP, get as much support for your future as possible by:
- Involve your parents/guardians and have them attend SSP meetings
- Do some pre-planning work. Spend some time researching your interests, skills, etc. Take assessment tests to help pinpoint these. Research majors that match with your interests and skills. Find postsecondary institutions that offer majors you may be interested in.
- Bring any materials (degree plans, specific college info or scholarship applications) that you may have for colleges or tech schools that you may have interest in.
All students may view their SSP at www.csecweb.org with their login information.
